The environment and environmentally friendly air conditioning systems:

As is explained in a little more detail here it became a legal requirement in 2009 that all air-conditioning installation companies in the UK and indeed across the EU who service or repair air condition systems or install and maintain air conditioning systems that contain "F gas" have a certificate issued by a recognised certification body that qualifies them to operate and proves they design and install air conditioning, heat-pumps etc that comply with current legislation.

The rather complex sounding F-gas regulation requires companies to comply with specific conditions of care. DEFRA are responsible for ensuring that Essential Air complies with the regulations.

The challenge is that it is our view that many companies simply don't know that such regulation exists and can as a subsequence, be operating air conditioning systems outside of the law.

The air conditioning regulations are quite extensive and companies whose office air-conditioning systems contain these outdated refrigerants must have them regularly checked for leaks and labelled accordingly. Indeed, records must be kept of such office and other air-conditioning systems to show that air conditioning maintenance, repairs and checking have taken place.

Of course responsible companies who are striving for such certification as ISO 14001 for environmental issues will want to ensure that the area of air-conditioning such as an office and refrigeration including kitchen air-conditioning in canteen and restaurants fully complies
